Help Yourself To Success. A Celebration of Life.

If you help yourself, God and humans will help you too. Start helping yourself to achieve your goals with commitment and perseverance and others, including God or the Universe, will be attracted into your life to assist you.

People first come to watch and then to help the person who has a clear goal and is working flat out to achieve it. The right people and the appropriate resources seem to appear as if the universe too is lending a hand.

In Zefirelli's film about St Francis, 'Brother Sun and Sister Moon', St Francis starts rebuilding a church.It is winter and his feet are bare. Before long, he is joined by others who are willing to help and wander about barefoot as well.

Mother Teresa starts to help the dying in the streets of Calcutta. Helpers gradually join her,inspired by her example, and her organisation is still going strong after her death.

In my own far less important experience I also found that, if you start something with determination, others will join you. When I started my current martial arts school in 1990 I was on my own. My first lesson was attended by me and one student who looked a lot tougher than me!

But soon others started to help me. They would join up themselves and before long would start bringing in other students to help pay the rent and keep the school going.

The school is still going in 2005 after fifteen years thanks again to the help of students and instructors who work like a team to improve and maintain the school.

The importance of both visualisation and taking action to help yourself has been recognised for thousands of years. The New Testament speaks of praying with thanksgiving i.e. asking for what you want but also visualising the fact that you have already received what you asked for and giving thanks in advance for the answers.

Wills, Legal, Living, Medical Directives, last will and testament

The New Testament also speaks about the importance of faith. Faith involves visualisation that what you believe will come about. Jesus promised his disciples: "If you have faith as small as a grain of mustard seed you can move mountains." Even a little belief can achieve a lot.

But action of all kinds is also necessary. Speaking is a form of action. We need to pray for what we want i.e. speak to God or the Universe. We use words to command the mountain to move.We speak to ask for support.

Writing is also an important form of action. You need to write the copy if you want to sell anything. It helps to write down your goals before you achieve them. More energetic physical action can be necessary.

Jesus told a paralysed man to take up his bed and walk. His faith that he had been cured had to be expressed in physical action. If you ask God to help you become fit and start believing that you will become fit, you also need to walk or even run or do some other form of training to help God or the universe to help you.

As you begin to take action and start your training regime, the laws of the universe will step in and help you. Other humans will also be moved to help out even if they only offer advice from the sidelines!

The New Testament speaks of both faith and works. Faith only is necessary for salvation but works should follow faith. True belief will be followed by action. Believers should show their belief by helping their neighbours.

As people step out and take action, God will help them. The actions are a sign that they have belief. The belief does not have to be great but some belief is needed to encourage action.

Occasionally the belief or vision may grow dim but it is advisable to keep taking those action steps. As you take action steps, the great power of God or the Universe will step in to assist you. God helps those who help themselves

You will also find that some humans at least will step in to help you out. As you become successful more humans will join up with you.

So start believing that you will achieve what you ask for today and start taking the necessary steps to answer your own requests. The universe and your fellow human beings will move to help you.

You can also help yourself by helping others to achieve their goals. As you help them achieve what they want in life, they will feel a powerful urge to help you back. Again Jesus had words for this. "Give and it shall be given to you."

How many of you have a corporate web site? Everybody says "Yes".

How many of you know its proper URL? OK, most of you.

How many of you have read everything on the web site? Numbers are dropping like stones here. How many of you contributed information on the web site? Anybody there?

When was the last time you looked at the section related to your business segment? A year ago when it first went up? Has your business progressed since then? Does anybody know it?

Why am I asking so many questions? Because serious exhibit attendees can answer all of these questions about your business.

I'm seeing more sophisticated prospects and buyers at shows - and where did they get the information - those questions that stump you? From your very own web site.

How Do You Shop on the Web?

Think about how you get info off the web and what you do with it. Do you buy a car directly (a few) or do you "shop" for information, and then go kick the tires, dicker and deal.

Generally, you'll buy based on these three levels of comfort

1. You've done business with its brick-and-mortar or mail order operation (The Gap, Lands End).

2. You have faith in the legitimacy of the site based on reputation (i.e., Amazon.com).

3. The site is clear, the product meets your need and you feel it's a fair deal.

Same thing with attendees. Except thatat a trade show, they're not walking the aisles to just unexpectedly happen upon you. They have an agenda, and it's often because of the Internet.

They have the list of exhibitors and have evaluated your firm by its web site. Now, at the show, they have the opportunity to meet with you first hand, to review literature, see demonstrations, sample product, test your knowledge, and be steps closer to closing a deal with you.

What happens if you don't know what's on your web site and the attendee does?

1. You appear uninformed about your own firm. Attendees consider that you are not a serious player

2. Your company appears to take the trade show lightly because you are not properly trained by your firm. It's a waste of the attendee's time and effort.

In essence, if I - as the attendee - take the time to narrow down my list of potential partners, including your firm, and you - as the company's representative - don't know as much about your firm as I do - well, Bubba, I think I'll pass. You have to have very compelling reasons for me to do business with a firm that is less informed about itself than I am about it.

Why is this critical? As trade shows draw more international clients, I see foreign firms sending high-level decision-makers who have spent time to evaluate firms based on web information. They come with a preselected list of potential partners. And, I see US firms still sending Junior Execs who think "being cute" or "knowing the buzzwords" or having a "great booth" or "super prize" will win a deal.

Words to the Wise

So, when you select your staff for the next show, make sure one of the requirements is familiarity with your own web site. Often, it's the first and most critical step an attendee has to evaluate your firm before actually meeting you on the show floor.

Low Carb Diet Plans: Stop Cheating On Your Low Carb Diet!

Atkins Nutritionals recently announced that they are filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It seems that the "low carb craze" was nothing more than just a passing fad. Well my friends I have come to both praise and bury the Atkins Diet.

I first discovered low carb diets about 15 years ago -- well before their recent popularity. My first introduction was by way of a book entitled "The Endocrine Control Diet." Like the Atkins Diet and other low carb diets for that matter, it was based on a severely restricted carbohydrate intake -- less than 50 grams of carbs per day. You put your body into a state of ketosis and force it to burn fat instead of glucose.

I was amazed at how quickly I was able to drop weight on the diet. If memory serves correctly, I dropped 15 lbs in little over a week.

Sure, a portion of it was water and muscle weight, but I also dropped quite a bit of body fat. I could tell it was fat because my waistline shrunk substantially.

The "Endocrine Control Diet" was strict about keeping carbs low and remaining in a state of ketosis until you reached your weight loss goal. This was tracked on a daily basis by peeing on Keto Strips to make sure you were still in ketosis. I stayed on the diet for about 2 months before reverting back to my former diet. The interesting thing was that I was able to keep my weight down for another 3 months before getting back up to where I was before the diet.

I should mention that during the diet that I was lifting weights and doing cardio exercise on a regular basis. I sincerely believe that this factor was vital in retaining lean muscle mass while dropping as much body fat as possible while on a calorie restricted, low carb diet.

In the intervening years I tried other low carb diets that were all variations on the same theme. The one constant for me was keeping up with my weight training and cardio exercise.

LOSE 10 LBS IN JUST 4 DAYS

Each and every time I was able to drop 15 - 20 lbs in as little as 3 weeks and keep it off for at least 3 months after stopping the diet.

The biggest problem I have with low carb diets is that I'm personally unable to stay on them for more that 3 months at a time. It's just too damn hard! Let's face it I like my carbs. Being of Italian extraction I was raised on pasta and bread. I also love Chinese cuisine with extra rice and have a fondness for potatoes. All of these foods are taboo on a low carb diet!

In the end, a low carb diet is not very realistic or very sociable for that matter. I've never been too worried about the health effects though.

I've had my cholesterol checked both on and off the low carb diets and there have been no variation in the readings even when I've consumed extra fat during some of the diets. My total cholesterol has always hovered around 200, which could be lower, but is the cutoff for a normal level.

Now that I know the power of a low carb diet to quickly take off weight, it will always be part of my fitness arsenal. The real secret is to combine the diet, and any diet for that matter, with a program of regular exercise that includes both weight training and cardiovascular exercise.

I think the best approach is to cycle your diet plan like professional bodybuilders do. Target a period for when you want to be at your leanest like the summer months at the beach or a high school reunion or wedding and start a low carb diet about 2-3 months out. You'll hit your peak right when you're ready to go back to your normal eating habits and you can count on staying lean for several weeks afterward.

The real secret is to always stay within 10-15 lbs of your "fighting weight" and know that you can get there in a hurry with a low carb diet.

The answer is "Yes" if they are done right.

When done correctly, testimonials can help you establish credibility and give you an opportunity to prove the claims about your web site.

However, when done incorrectly, testimonials aren't believable and honest, and can cause more harm than good.

Here are some ideas on how to use testimonials effectively:

1. Do not fake it
Your testimonials should be believable. The best way to make them believable is to not make them up. A fade testimonial can ruin your credibility. Play fair, and get real testimonials from real people.

2. Be brief
If it's too long, your web site visitor probably won't read it. If you've got a super long testimonial, break it up into small sections and use it in different places.

3. Identify the person giving the testimonial
Ideally, use a full name and title, not something generic like "Happy Customer". Also, you get bonus credibility if you put real contact information so your web site visitor can actually reach the person giving the testimonial. Usually, the visitor won't bother, but they want to know that they could contact that real person and confirm the story.

4. Put testimonials throughout your web site
It is OK to have one page with all your testimonials, but you can't guarantee that a visitor to your web site will go to that page. Put one or two testimonials on each page throughout your web site.

The avoiding approach to negotiating is characterized by losing, leaving, and withdrawing. No commitments are made, and behavior is impersonal. Use this approach when you would get hurt by staying or when you want to change the ground rules. It is useful when issues are trivial and is helpful when the other side has much greater power. Its disadvantage is that the problem is left unresolved, and this can result in nothing getting done if too many problems are swept under the rug. In the avoiding approach, at least one of the parties displays a subtle reluctance or unwillingness to resolve the issues. This approach is of little use for those working with organizations as it strains relationships and prevents the building of trust between the parties involved. Using this approach can also increase the other party's resistance to negotiation.

Under the accomodation approach, the parties are yielding, and they try to avert conflict. The accommodating negotiator undervalues his own worth and accomplishments and places top priority on maintaining peaceful relations with others. It is a "don't rock the boat" philosophy used when there is a need to concede on small points in order to gain on major points later. It is helpful when the other side is right and you should give in, or when preservation of the relationship is more important than negotiation. Among its problems are that it creates potential IOU's for future negotiations. Furthermore, it may hand you a major loss on important issues and can lead to a habit of concession on many issues, hence decreasing your power and reputation. This approach gives away too much by overly emphasizing the relationship between the parties. Accommodating may satisfy the other party while your interests suffer. Use this approach when appropriate, but do not make a habit of it.

A true love story

"So, was it an eyes-meet-across-the-room-thing and you knew you were destined for each other instantly?" I asked my Mom. "No," she laughed, "it was a swinging-door-thing and once we met, then we knew it was destiny."

It was 1946 when my parents met in postwar Oldenburg, Germany while working for British Intelligence. Dad (a.k.a. Peter Russell) had survived WW II after being in many challenging battles. He was a "frightfully English chap" who grew up in the south of England. Mom (Blanche Moore - a.k.a. Pat Russell) had experienced the war in a different way. One of the many bombing raids on Belfast, Northern Ireland had demolished her family home.

It only took Dad one week after he saw Mom going through the now infamous swinging door into the Intelligence Offices, to make sure he was introduced to her. Once they met, they were inseparable and spent many hours dancing at the Officers Club in Oldenburg. Mom and Dad were known for being fabulous ballroom dancers and other dance participants would frequently stand aside and watch them together as they swirled around the dance floor, eyes locked on one another.. Dad was a lean, good-looking man of 6' and he was handsome in his British Intelligence Uniform. Mom was and still is a petite 5' 2" pretty Irish woman with twinkly eyes and a penchant for laughing a lot.

As they danced together, Dad would sing (in German):

"Do you remember the precious time when we came together for life, My heart sang a little melody for you day and night. Do you remember that beautiful time?

Even though youth will fade, songs of love will always stay. Should fate ever darken your happiness, My song will always light it up for you."

They were the first British couple to be married in Oldenburg after the war. They were transferred to the village of Brake on the Weser River in Germany as a husband/wife team with British Intelligence specializing in political and counter intelligence. Dad had a network of agents under his supervision. He and his agents contributed to the break up of the Communist party in that area of Germany. "

The Focused Interviewing System of Interview and Interrogation

Peter and Pat's" cover for being in post war Germany was the interrogation of returning prisoners of war from Russia.

But at night their real work would begin. Dad would direct and rendezvous with various agents in the field. Another agent, would cautiously make his way back to Mom with stolen documents. This home rendezvous would usually happen after midnight with Mom waiting nervously for the agent to arrive. She would then translate and type the information immediately, so that it could be sent to the head office of British Intelligence in London, England. It was a tense and nerve wracking time.

"Do you hear my secret calling Open up your sweet loving heart, When you have longingly thought of me tonight. Then I will be with you in your dream Let me look at you once again Show me your much loved face Then turn off the light My heart will not forget you Please go to sleep"

Dad died in 1989 in Salmon Arm, seven years after retiring as a Special Agent for the Canadian National Railroad Police in Prince George. As well as being named Citizen of the Year in 1972, he was also the recipient of the Governor General's award for his contribution to the youth of that city.

In the years since his death, Mom had searched for their special song. She wrote to CBC radio, and she had asked people she met who were of German descent if they had heard of the song. She was nearly ready to give up until eight months ago. She was in "Styles on Mane" in Vernon having her hair done, when a gentleman came in to have his hair cut. As he had a German accent, Mom asked him if he had heard of the song. He said he hadn't, but promised to look into it for her. (His name is Julius and he is the neighbour and good friend of the owner of the shop, Cynthia Robertson)

One month later, Mom went to her weekly hair appointment. As she sat down, Cynthia turned to her friend Julius who was in the shop and said, "Julius, I forgot to turn on the radio today. Would you turn it on for me please?"

Soon the beautiful words of the song "Do You Hear My Secret Calling" were being played throughout the salon. Julius Topf had contacted friends in Germany and with the help of a popular newspaper columnist the song had been found on a CD of hit songs from 1934 to 1943. Mom was completely overwhelmed with happiness when she heard the song again after 50 years.

My parents shared the special kind of intense and enduring love alluded to in this lovely song. It was their heart song. Now she can close her eyes as she listens to the music and from her memory bank, imagine that she is back on the dance floor, being tenderly held in the arms of her beloved as he sang to her.

A final kind of stress test is the thallium test. These tests are usually administered in people who seem to have blockages in their circulatory system and the blockages need to be located. Thallium tests are usually run in conjunction with an exercise stress test and, after the person is done on the treadmill, the person is injected with a slightly radioactive thallium solution. Once the thallium get into the bloodstream, a special camera examines the person's body in order to look for places where the thallium, and thus the blood, is not flowing properly. Thallium tests are not given very often, as they are mostly used when doctors know there is a blockage, but are not sure where to look for it. Obviously, some people cannot be asked to run on a treadmill and they are usually given a drug as a substitute in order to locate the blockage.

There are a variety of stress tests available and your doctor is the best person to talk to if you are interested in taking one. These tests are very valuable to check your overall health level and they provide a great deal of information that can be used to diagnose any problems or prevent them before they start. So if you are feeling the effects of stress and you wonder if it is causing health problems, there are ways to find out what you or your doctor want to know.

To creatively solve problems you need to get your mind looking in new directions. You can systematically do this by using a list of words, primarily adjectives, to create "what if?" scenarios. You start with the question, "what if it was..." and then insert a word from the list. The "it" in the question is the problem you're trying to solve, or the solution or situation that exists now.

Using "What If" To Solve Problems

An example will help explain the process. Assume your house is too crowded because you're running your business from it. You ask, "What if it was..." and insert from the word list, "smaller." The house is already too small, but could the business be smaller? The word "divided" might give you the idea to keep the business in just one part of the house.

Most words on the list won't help, so you can go through the irrelevant ones quickly. Don't automatically dismiss them, though, without a few seconds consideration. "What if it was hopeless?" may seem like a useless question, or it may make you realize that you just can't keep the business in the house any longer.

As with most problem-solving techniques, it's important to allow ideas to flow without judging them initially. Don't stifle the creative process. Evaluate your ideas later, when you're done with this part.

The Problem Solving Word List

You can create your own list of words. Use adjectives, descriptive phrases, and words that can change your perspective. These could include the following:

What if it was... larger, smaller, farther away, closer, sooner, later, easier, more difficult, higher, fat, rich, short, black, certain, hopeless, newer, boring, casual, subtracted from, cheaper, common, divided, more interesting, extravagant, subtle, or fun?

world already full of acronyms and codes, who would have thought that something as simple as color could join in the confusion? Knowing the different color models and how they are used is not only helpful in getting the visual results you want it is critical to staying on budget.

Of the many color models available, there are really only three in which you need any fluency: CMYK, PMS and RGB.

CMYK Color

This acronym stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and black. CMYK is also known as process color, full color, 4 color, and 4c. The colors are versions of the primary colors, blue, red, yellow and black. They create full color images like you would see in a magazine. Choose CMYK when you need life-like, realistic color, more than two colors, have a large press run, or are printing only on your office printer.

What you need to know:

If you are printing your project on a desktop color printer, look at the ink cartridge. If yours is CMYK, save your files and photos in that format for best output.
Full color commercial printing is typically more expensive than one or two color. Typically, a press run of 1000 or more is needed to make this format economical.

PMS Color

The Pantone Matching System�½ (PMS) produces a specific color. It contains hundreds of colors, light to dark, bright to pastel; each designated by a number. PMS colors are typically used in one and two color printing and are also called spot color or flat color.

The PMS model delivers reliable color whenever you print it. It is an excellent choice for giving the impact of color to low budget jobs, and maintaining consistent use of corporate colors.

What you need to know:

Inkjet and color laser printers are not able to produce PMS colors accurately, however some colors work better than others.
There is no accurate proofing system for PMS color. The closest match can be shown on a high quality digital proofing system, available from your printer. When choosing PMS colors, have your designer show you a swatch from a PMS book to approve the color choice.
PMS colors can be "screened," printed as a lighter value of the color, in effect creating many colors from a single ink with no extra cost.

RGB Color

RGB stands for red, green and blue and makes up onscreen color. The RGB model is used for projects that will only be seen on a screen and not printed. RGB is the right choice for projects like websites, PowerPoint presentations and Acrobat .pdf files. Be advised that different monitors have different screen resolution and that can affect color display.

What you need to know:

RGB produces vivid colors that look fabulous on-screen, but are difficult to reproduce in other color models. When converted to CMYK, many RGB colors look muddy and dull, and many have no Pantone equivalent at all. If your project will ever be used offline, be sure to select colors in the printing method it will be used in the most.

Color Matching

Have you ever wondered why the proof you are emailed looks different from the color mock-up from your designer, and different still from the printed piece?

What you need to know:

Forget about this. Nothing ever matches exactly. The PMS or process color swatch book is the closest representation of the color you will get on press.
Learn to think of your proofs as an approximation, and clearly explain to your designer what you are looking for. Trust your creative team to get the best match possible.

Optimum golf balance depends on three aspects: your visual perception, the signals from the inner ear, and signals from your muscles and joints. Sometimes these aspects get out of sync, causing a balance disorder. Most of which can be easily fixed with some simple ideas.

Google AdWords and Overture are probably the two most popular in use today.

The PPC search engine allows you to buy a top position in the search engine results for the particular keyword or phrase you choose. The PPC search engines can deliver targeted and qualified visitors to your web page at an economical advertising cost if you manage the program carefully with a clear objective. PPC provides the advertiser with assurance that their ad is being delivered to the targeted audience.

PPC advertising uses a bidding process where the highest bidder or highest activity value, depending on the search engine, for a particular keyword or phrase will receive the top placement on the search engine results page.

If your conversion rate (the number of visitors that buy your product) is 1.0%, only 1 of your visitors will buy your product out of 100 visitors. Your net profit for every 100 visitors from your PPC campaign will be $5 ($15 profit margin less $10 for PPC).

It is a good idea to experiment with the different PPC search engines to find the one that works best for you. In addition, you need to spend the necessary time and effort to select the keyword or keyword phrase that has a profitable conversion rate for your specific web page. A higher conversion rate implies more profits to you.

Try to avoid the senseless bidding war with your competitors. Seriously evaluate whether having the number one placement position is worth the PPC price you pay. What about position numbers two, three and so on. Will you get enough clicks in one of those positions to make your PPC campaign a success? Do not automatically assume that you have to be in position number one to make a lot of money using PPC. It all comes down to experimenting and testing.

There is no such thing as the perfect PPC campaign. Evaluate the performance of your PPC campaigns on a continuous basis. Are you leaving money on the table by not adjusting your PPC bid to a lower level? Should you increase the bid price to get more traffic? Is your conversion rate changing? What are your competitors doing? Should you be considering different keywords in your campaign? PPC advertising is a great way to get traffic but at a definite price. PPC requires a thorough knowledge of the PPC search engines that you use and constant monitoring and evaluation of your campaigns.

Robert G Allen Success Story Challenge

Around the World in 80 Days, stimulated the imagination of 26-year-old Robert Christopher.

"Why," he asked himself, "can't I go around the world on $80."

Bob's first step was to list all the problems that he would face. His second step was to note all possible solutions.

His third step was to take action!

He started by signing a contract with the Charles Pfizer Company, a large pharmaceutical company, to collect soil samples from the various countries that he planned to visit.

Next he secured an international driver's license, obtained maps in return for a proposed report on Middle East road conditions, acquired seamen's papers, and secured a letter from the New York Police Department to show that he had no criminal record. Then he took care of his boarding by arranging for a youth hostel membership. His final step was to talk a freight airline into flying him over the Atlantic in return for photographs which could be used for company publicity.

Bob left New York City with $80 in his pocket.

He used his wits to travel around the world in 86 days.

He used one carton to pay someone to drive him from Paris to Vienna. And he used four cigarette packs to pay a train conductor fro a trip from Vienna to Switzerland through the Alps.

Besides cigarettes, Bob also used maps as a medium of exchange. In Bangkok, the owner of an expensive restaurant fed him in exchange for a a set of maps and a detailed description of a specific area that Bob had traveled through.

Bob finally came home to the U.S. as a crew member of the S.S. Flying Spray, which transported him from Japan to San Francisco.

Bob proved to himself that any given aim could be accomplished if he had faith in it.

Robert Christopher set himself an apparently impossible task. He wanted to challenge himself. He wanted to prove that he could do anything he set his mind to doing. He used organized thinking, exercised initiative, self-discipline, and creative vision, and acted with faith and confidence.

HOW TO GET OVER A BREAK UP - HELP TO MEND A BROKEN HEART

A little stress is good for us until it becomes overwhelming! Here are my top tactics to saying yes to less stress.

Don't go without protection. Just as we put sunscreen on us to protect against the harmful rays of the sun, we sometimes need to protect ourselves from people, places and things. You can't stop other people from being negative or living their lives from one drama to another, but you can stop yourself from being sucked in by them.

Look inside yourself. Although there are many dangers around that can cause us to feel stress, many of these dangers are lurking inside us. It may not be possible to eliminate stress altogether. However, it is possible to try to control the level of stress you feel.

Take life in bite-size chunks! There may be only so much that you want to change in your life to make it less stressful. You can't do it all at once! But no matter how small a step you take each day, over a year that will add up to 365 daily actions. Start wherever you are and take one step at a time - that is all you can do!

Begin with yourself. Most of us find it is hard enough to change ourselves. It is even more difficult to change others. So if you find yourself stressed by the actions of others, change how you react, rather than expecting others to change.

Stop worrying. Realise that there are many things in our lives that we don't have control over. Let them go. Instead worrying about what you can't change, focus your thoughts on what you can change. The antidote to worry is action.

Put yourself first. Take care of yourself first. It's not selfish - it's necessary, because if you are burned out and running on empty, you have nothing left to give to others. You cannot give away what you don't have. Put your priorities first and make sure you have the energy and attitude to help others.

Take a break. If you are doing something that is really frustrating, you need to take a break. Step away from the situation for a while. The more stressed you are, the less likely you are to be effective in solving a problem.

Say No! Don't take on more than you can handle. Say 'no' to other people, especially when it will make your life more stressful than you want. Take responsibility for what you can and can't cope with. Say 'no' and don't take on more than you can manage.

Don't give up too soon. Refocus! If you find you are slipping away from reaching your goals, STOP! Take a break and refocus your actions on the bigger picture. Any change can be difficult. But what is the cost of not changing?

The first thing I do is type "I'm bored" or something silly like that in the search engine, and look for something time consuming to do. If you can develop a Macromedia flash game, or comic strip, or want to make a funny quiz, you'll get a lot of users who play it, or tell people about it!

If you are an original content creator, syndicate your writing over RSS (Really simple syndication), so your users can use an RSS reader for viewing your site. This can also get you lots of extra traffic from RSS feed search sites!

There is so many different ways you can make your website more enjoyable for the user, be creative and try to do something that you would enjoy seeing on a website. Odds are if you like to do it, your users will too!

Mutual - A life insurance company that is owned by its with-profits policyholders.

Offer Price - The price at which fund units are bought.

Premium - The amount of money paid into an insurance policy.

Proprietary - A life insurance company that issues its profits to its shareholders.

Qualifying Policy - A life assurance based savings plan that has to be written for a minimum of 10 years and must fulfil certain qualifying policy criteria to ensure the final payout is tax free.

Renewable Term - Term Insurance that may be renewed for another term without evidence of insurability.

Single Premium Policy - Where a single lump sum is paid for an insurance policy.

Sum Insured - The amount of money that is guaranteed to be paid under an insurance policy, before any bonuses are added.

Surrender Value - Not applicable to all life insurance policies. The amount that an insurance policyholder is entitled to receive when he or she discontinues coverage

Term Insurance - Provides policyholder with protection only. Life insurance payable to a beneficiary only when an insured dies within a specified number of years (the term). If you live beyond the term you do not receive any payment. This is thought to be the cheapest type of insurance.

Terminal Bonus - This is an extra bonus determined when a death or maturity claim is paid. Terminal bonus is often only paid if the policy has been in-force for a minimum number of years at claim time.

Unitised With Profits Fund - Also known as a Unit-Linked With Profits Fund. A type of Life Fund that can invest in UK and overseas shares, property, fixed interest securities and cash. Due to the addition of bonuses the unit price does not reflect the value of the underlying investments.

Unit-Linked - Also called Unitised. If your insurance policy is unit-linked, some of your money is used to purchase 'units' in a fund. The value of your policy at maturity is dependent upon the growth of the fund in which the policy is invested. Generally refers to policies that offer protection and saving such as endowment insurance, whole life insurance and investment bonds.

Unit-Linked Single Premium Bond - A single lump sum life insurance policy where your investment is spread over a number of Life Funds.

Whole Life Insurance - Whole life insurance provides a death benefit for the policyholder as it builds up cash value. The policy remains in force for the lifetime of the insured, as long as premiums are paid according to the policy agreement. You can choose insurance that pays out on death a guaranteed sum only, the sum plus any bonuses that have been added, or the sum plus any additional value from the growth of the funds invested in.

Without Profits - When a policy reaches maturity or the policyholder dies, the amount paid out is the basic guaranteed sum only. You would not be entitled to any bonuses.

With Profits - Relates to insurance policies that combine investment with protection. This type of policy is entitled to a share of the profits made by the insurance company. Premiums are invested in the with profit fund, reversionary bonuses are applied usually on an annual basis which reflect the investment growth of the fund assets. On death and/or maturity a further terminal bonus might be applied to the fund value.

With Profits Bond - An insurance policy where your lump sum is in most cases invested in a Unitised With Profits Fund (which is listed under the Life Funds section).

Identity theft is a growing concern among Americans, and rates among the top five complaints received by states' Attorney General's offices. A stolen identity can lead to tens of thousands of dollars worth of debt in the victim's name and it can take years to completely undo the damage done to the victim's credit report. Identity thieves can successfully commit crime with as little as a driver's license number or credit card number, but the ideal target of such criminals is the Social Security number. With that number in hand, the identity thief can pass themselves off as the victim and open credit card accounts, bank accounts, and even obtain home equity loans. As more Americans become aware of the problems posed by identity theft, consumers are doing more to protect themselves. This has inspired thieves to look to a new source of identities to steal, and they have found one. They are now stealing the identities of children.

Established in the 1930's the Social Security Administration was set up to provide benefits for retired Americans. Taxes are withdrawn from the paychecks of eligible workers, and each worker is issued a Social Security number in order to keep track of his or her benefits. Over the years, and despite the intentions of those who created the system, the Social Security number has become a de facto national identity number. It is difficult, if not impossible, to engage in most financial transactions without providing that number to the other party in the transaction. In fact, the number itself has become as important as the name of the person who holds it. Over the years, criminals have discovered that by obtaining the Social Security number of someone else, all kinds of illegal activities are possible, including obtaining loans in the names of the owner's of the stolen numbers.

With more people now aware of the potential of identity theft, consumers are more carefully protecting their personal information. As a result, thieves are now targeting the Social Security numbers of children. A law passed in 1989 requires parents of newborn infants to register for a Social Security number for their child. That child will probably not need that number until he or she is a teenager, when the number might be necessary to obtain a driver's license, open a bank account, or get a job. In the meantime, the number is not only unused, but the theft of it may go unnoticed. Thieves who obtain a Social Security number of a child know that they can probably use it for a decade without being caught. How can you protect your child from identity theft? Treat your child's personal information as if it were your own, and guard it carefully. Don't give out the Social Security number of your child unless it is absolutely necessary, and if you aren't sure if it's necessary, ask. Some doctors and hospitals, for instance, request the number as a matter of course, but they may not actually need it.

Check to see if your child has a credit report. You can obtain one for free at the free credit report Website. Your child, if not working, shouldn't have a credit report, so if the credit bureaus have one on file, you may have a problem. A child's personal information is as useful to an identity thief as that of an adult. Guard yours and your children's identification carefully.

Make sure you choose a camera that has good battery life.

Number of Megapixels
The megapixel rating of a digital camera determines how much fine detail you can capture in your shots. Typically, the number of megapixels can range around from 2 megapixels to 8 megapixels. How do you decide how many megapixels you need? As a rule of thumb, if you're only interested in taking small snapshots to send via email or for posting on the Web, you won't need more than 2-megapixels.

If you are getting a point-and-shoot camera, make sure you find one that's easy to use. User controls to set resolution, macro mode, flash and exposure should be within easy reach.

Businesses rely on brochures as their front line in communicating their products or services. Yet according to Shannon Cherry, APR, many find them not as successful because they underestimate the skills and resources necessary to publish attractive and effective materials.

Most people forget a brochure is important because it represents you to the world and reflects your image," says Cherry, president of Cherry Communications, a public relations and marketing firm that helps businesses, entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations be heard.

"But the best brochures do more than impress," she says. "Effective copy and design can intrigue, inform, convince and capture customer business just as an effective salesperson does. Brochure effectiveness is linked to an audience-appropriate marketing strategy that drives the design process."

Cherry shares the following top ten list of hints can help your brochure put its best foot forward:

1. Keep headlines short. According to studies, headlines with fewer than ten words get more readership.

2. Focus your headline on your target audience. Show a picture of your target group and make sure the headline has the groups description in it. For example: If you are targeting moms, uses a headline like, "Moms Know Best."

3. Keep text lines at a comfortable length. Body copy lines should never be shorter than the font size or longer than double the font size.

4. Keep paragraphs - especially lead paragraphs - short. Perhaps even one sentence.

5. Use graphical dingbats including bullets, hyphens, and asterisks, to break up text.

6. Use captions to draw the reader in. Next to the cover, captions are the most read items in a brochure.

7. Set captions in a different style.

8. Avoid typographic overkill by using too many CAPS, italics and bolds.

9. Stick to no more than three different fonts in a brochure.

10. If you use photos with people in them, make sure their heads are at least the size of a dime.

Call your office. How long does it take to get an answer? Is there a professional greeting? What do you hear when you are put on hold? Go through the voice menus. Are any of them dead ends? How long does it take to get to a human, or at least a place where you can leave a message?

Call your order line and place an order. How long does it take to get the item? Was it packaged well and did it arrive safely? What else was in the package (e.g., a catalog, thank you note, extra gift)? Inquire about returning an item. Is the service you receive as good as that you got when you ordered? Does the customer service person try to save the sale by offering alternatives to meet your needs?

Walk through your retail location. Is merchandise attractively presented? Is everything clearly priced? Are the aisles clear so you can walk comfortably? Can a shopping cart fit? Is the rest room clean and stocked with supplies?

Go to your web site and place an order. Does your site load quickly? Is it easy to find specific products? Does the order form work? What communication does a customer receive when they place an order (e.g., an email confirmation)? Submit a question via email and see what response you receive. Are the links on your web site (internal and external) working? You also want to know if proper sales techniques are being followed. Although a customer will never complain because your staff didn't attempt to upsell them, your bottom line can suffer when this important step is missed. Plus, helping customers get everything they need in one stop can increase their satisfaction and loyalty. Are sales people recommending additional products and telling customers about optional services, such as a maintenance agreement? If they are not, your business is losing revenue and profit.

When you see yourself as your customers do, you can identify problems that may be costing you sales. Make it easy to do business with you and watch your profits increase!

Anyway, we struggled and battled and fought to save money so we could get ahead a bit faster. Get ahead to where?

That was the question that I started to ask myself. "What does it all mean? Who cares if I have all these "nice things" to play with? Surely that's not what life is supposed to be about?" The endless fight that we were fighting was not bringing us the real stuff that counted.

It wasn't bringing me more time with my family to appreciate and experience LIFE.

It wasn't a fight that was mine!

And that's the bottom line! The fight that many of us face every day is often not a fight that by winning it makes us happy. So I resolved to become a warrior that fights for what I believe in. I resolved to become a warrior that fights for the life that is best suited to me and my family's lifestyle.

I resolved to fight for what counts!

It was my fault for my circumstances and it was because of lack of action towards the important elements in life. It was my fault and no one else could be blamed and no excuse could be used - I was accountable!

Once this adjustment was made to my perspective, the doors to abundance began to open wide enough for me to sneak a peak. What I saw helped me to believe that maybe, just maybe, the lifestyle that my family and I want is possible for us.

It has become the fight of my life.

The Website Marketing Bible - one of the best Internet marketing strategy e-books

all my life and understanding how hard it is to build a brand, I have probably read every other popular book on the subject. Some are good and most are excellent, as each one helps give you ideas on setting the stage for your brand marketing objectives. Branding on the Internet is somewhat new as before 1995 there was little if any Internet to speak of. One book I can recommend is:

"11 immutable laws of Internet branding" by Laura Ries.

This was a goods book. Where as I agree with MANY of the rules of thumb, I disagree completely with nearly all of the examples supporting their assertions. Most of the purported examples to prove their theories are outdated and out of context. I do not recommend this book to anyone and having personally called the author, I was a little concerned with the lack of business history and knowledge that went into the work. Too bad, it is a good subject. In my companies we are following most all of the basic marketing branding rules they consider relevant, and probably better than nearly all of the other companies listed or mentioned.

Internet Brand Marketing is important, but only a mere component of the whole. Sure it is important and you should pay attention to your strategy, but the customer will always vote with their dollar, so realize when reading

such books that these people who write them actually are writing them to puff up clients they have and trying to sell marketing strategy services. They made errors in their assumptions of Microsoft, the reason for the Boston Market failure, their degree of confidence in Amazon.com, their domain name picking theories. I could nearly crush them in a debate on almost every single example they used to prove a point, as they cite case laws and business histories. On the points themselves they are plus or minus average in their correctness, and I would only challenge a few points, if any and only in certain contexts or situations. All in all however

the book should be read with a grain of salt but definitely read by anyone who is in charge of brand marketing on the Internet, which by now should be every CEO in the country.

question, the greatest story in the Bible of someone who sought after the knowledge and wisdom of God and actually received it was King Solomon in the Old Testament. What happened to this man was just about beyond belief.

When Solomon became King of Israel, he knew he did not have the knowledge and wisdom to properly rule his people. So what did he do? He went direct to God the Father and asked Him for His knowledge and His wisdom to rule the people. He admitted his weakness in this area and was not afraid to press in and start asking God for His knowledge.

So what did God do when he asked Him for His knowledge to help rule his people? God did not meet him halfway - He met him all the way! As you will see in the two verses I will list below - God tells Solomon because he did not ask for long life, riches or the death of his enemies for himself - but just asked for an "understanding heart" to judge his people and help with discerning between good and evil - God tells him that He will give him a "wise and understanding heart."

But then God takes it one more incredible step further. He tells Solomon that the knowledge and wisdom that will be given to him will be like what no man has ever had before him and what no man will ever have after him! In other words - God will make this man the smartest man in God that has ever lived, and that there would never be another man in the course of human history that would ever have the knowledge that he would be given.

Just stop and ponder on what an incredible thing that this was - to have been given so much knowledge and wisdom direct from God Himself - that no man would ever be his equal in this gift!

Then God goes one more extra step in order to put the icing on this man's cake. He then tells Solomon that since he did not ask for riches for himself - but just for the knowledge of God to rule his people - that he will now be given incredible riches and honor to go along with the knowledge and wisdom to rule his people. Then God adds the final touch on the riches and honor he will be given - telling Solomon that there shall never be another king like him all the days of his life and that he will surpass all the kings of the earth in "riches and wisdom." In other words - God ends up making this man the smartest and richest man in all of the earth at the time that he was living!

If Solomon was really not asking God for wealth and riches - but just for the knowledge and wisdom to rule his people - why would God go so overboard in blessing this man with this kind of wealth - especially if he was not asking for it and possibly not even desiring it?

I believe the main reason God rewarded Solomon with this kind of maximum wealth was not only to show him, but

the rest of His people that would come later on, the extreme importance that each and every person seek after the knowledge of God for their own lives. By blessing Solomon with this kind of wealth - God is telling all of us the extreme importance that we seek after Him and His knowledge for our lives.

In other words - seeking after the knowledge of God has to be a major priority in a believer's life. We cannot spiritually grow and develop in the Lord unless we have His knowledge worked into us that will cause this spiritual growth to occur in the first place. And you can't get this knowledge worked into you unless you are first seeking after it!

Seek and then you will find. But the reverse is also true - don't seek, and you will not find. And if you don't find the knowledge of God for your life - then the Holy Spirit will not have anything to work with to start the transformation and sanctification process within you.

Grab a hold of these two verses and the statements that God is making to Solomon - all because he got this ball rolling by simply asking God for His knowledge to help rule his people.

"Therefore give to your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"

And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked for this thing.Then God said to him: "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.

And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days." (1 Kings 3:9-14)
"So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. And all the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart." (1 Kings 10:23)

If King Solomon was able to receive this kind of knowledge and wisdom from God - simply because he asked and really pressed in for it - then what can God do for you in this realm if you are willing to expend the time and energy to seek after it?

The Complete Guide to Starting and Running Your Home Craft Business

The holidays are a time for friends and family and good old-fashioned home cooking. Who can resist the tempting smells coming from the kitchen at this most favorite time of year? Holiday dinners were among my favorite, most memorable meals as a child. Our family shared our holiday meals with different relatives each year, but wherever we were and whoever we were with, we always knew to expect good food and enjoyable family gatherings that we would remember for months to come.

When I was a child, it was always a tradition in our family to have turkey for Thanksgiving and ham for Christmas.

MEAT AND POTATOES . COM

We would also always enjoy mounds of creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams with lots of butter, brown sugar, and melted marshmallows, and I could always count on sampling my dad's famous fruit salad. He would meticulously cut each fruit into bite-size pieces (apples, oranges, grapes, bananas, and raisins), and mix it all together with a generous portion of homemade whipped cream. Homemade cranberry sauce was also always a special holiday treat.

Now that I'm married we have even more family to share our holiday meals with. With so much family, though, we rarely get to host dinner at our house. It's always nice to go to someone else's house to eat, but then we don't get any of the leftovers! We usually end up taking advantage of the holiday sales at the supermarket though, and then we can have our own little feast. I've had a lot of fun over the years devising ways to use up the leftovers from our own holiday meals--and I'd like to share some of my favorite recipes with you.

Turkey and Rice Soup

2 1/2 cups turkey, cooked and diced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 6-ounce box long-grained rice
2 cups mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup onion, diced
1 cup carrots, grated

In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients with 6 cups of water. Simmer, covered, until rice is cooked, approximately 30 minutes. Great with fresh bread.

Turkey Spaghetti

8 oz. spaghetti or other pasta
1 can cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup
3/4 c. grated mild cheddar cheese
2 c. leftover cooked, diced turkey
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional - diced celery and/or diced onion to your taste

Prepare soup as directed. Prepare spaghetti as directed then drain. Combine spaghetti, soup and remaining ingredients. Stir until cheese melts. Serve and enjoy!

Mashed Potatoes and Ham Bake

2 cups mashed potatoes
2 tablespoons mustard
2 cups ham, cubed
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium-sized bowl, mix mashed potatoes and mustard. Spread potato mixture in the bottom of a greased 8-inch square baking pan. Arrange ham on top of potatoes. In a small bowl, mix cottage cheese and cheddar cheese. Spread over ham. Bake until mixture is heated through, about 30 minutes.

Chopped Ham Sandwiches

2 lb. leftover ham, chopped into bite-sized pieces
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 c. ketchup
1/4 c. vinegar
1 c. water
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

Fry ham in a skillet and sprinkle flour over it. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Simmer for 1 hour and serve on toast or hamburger buns. Makes 15 to 20 sandwiches.

Approximately 4 million people in the UK use ADSL with an extra 2 million using a cable connection, meaning 6 million people in the UK have an always-on internet connection. Of these over 1.7 million are subscribed to BT's broadband package, making them the UK's main broadband provider.

Back in August 2000 BT first launched its high-speed internet connection to customers. Initially only available to around one third of UK households and costing �½500 a year it was the first step in many to Broadband Britain.

There are currently only 2 ways to connect to ADSL in the UK. Recently a technique called Local Loop Unbundling means you don't need to have a BT phone line, but at the moment only 1% of people on broadband in the UK use this method. The only other way to connect transforms an existing BT phone line into a high-speed digital line. This is only available with a BT phone line though, so even if you don't subscribe to BT's package your ISP still has to pay BT money to maintain and connect your line. Because of this BT has been able to dictate the availability of broadband in the UK for a few years now.

For fear that UK telecoms watchdog Ofcom would break-up the company because they held a monopoly by owning all the phone lines and means to connect to broadband, BT has agreed to offer rival companies access to the "Local Loop", which is the network of telephone lines around the country. By doing this BT could stand to lose many customers as other companies can offer their broadband directly and without having to pay BT expenses.

Since the introduction of ADSL in the UK many potential customers found their local exchanges were simply out of date and the lines too old to be able to handle this new technology. Campaigns run country-wide as BT will only upgrade exchanges if there is adequate interest. One of the main reasons people will continue to signup to BT is its reliability. They have broken the mould of all ISPs having poor customer service and are incredibly helpful with setting up your connection.

BT are aiming to trail their 8Mbps connection soon, intending it to be in common use by the end of the year. BT's ultimate goal is making broadband available throughout the country, including rural areas.
